Pastor Bryan Clark has written a brilliant book called "God's Not Like That." It helps us understand that we all form ideas about God from our original home. Breaking away from beliefs that may be contrary to how God really is, helps us immensely in our spiritual lives.
Bryan Clark has been a Senior Pastor for four decades. He has also served as the Bible teacher for Back to the Bible as well as doing a podcast with Dan Whitney (aka Larry the Cable Guy) called Talk’n Truth. He is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute, Talbot Seminary and Denver Seminary. He specializes in translating deep biblical truths into practical books for adults and children.

I personally recommend this book. It is a brilliant success! I think that Pastor Bryan could change the world with this book. (I have received no compensation of any kind for this review.)
Pastor Bryan Clark has been our Senior Pastor here in Lincoln for many years and has just recently retired. That is to say, I know the man. I hear his voice when I read his book. He has written "God's Not Like That" after dozens of years of counseling others in his ministry.
The point of the book is to help us all understand that many of our problems that we have with our lives, especially our spiritual lives, are related to our wrong views of God. His belief is that if we can acquire a right view of God that our spiritual lives will be much more fulfilling. (I have to agree!)
His premise is that each of us gains ideas about God (and of Church) from our family of origin. As he puts it, "It's not a question of IF you learned about God from your family, but WHAT you learned about Him."
This idea stands whether or not you were brought up in a traditional, two-parent family, or in a single-parent family, or a foster family, or an institution. Everyone was raised by someone, somewhere. And those people who raised us left us with impressions (correct or not) of what God is like.
Then Pastor Bryan does the impossible. He walks us through it. He very carefully presents the ideal for the family, where God is correctly portrayed as He really is, and then without casting blame or causing bitterness, helps us to think about what our families were like and if they portrayed God correctly or not.
This book has the opportunity to set people free. It is very well written, encouraging and inspiring all at once.
Please read "God's Not Like That." I've read it at least twice and it has helped me a lot. I would recommend it wholeheartedly.
Blessings,
Sharon
